During the week of April 23rd thru the 26th I attended four days of classes at Oaksterdam University.  It was here, that I had the privilege of my first encounter with Kali Grech, teaching law classes.  Although I was and still am a Nebraskan, I found the general knowledge that Kali had preached about California law to be extremely helpful for me down the road.

It was approximately on the night of June 13th that I was stopped by local law enforcement due to defect headlight in the state of Nebraska.  I was arrested on DUS and cited for a defect headlight.  During a non consensual search of the car ( I had denied permission for search of the vehicle despite the fact a search was to be conducted, something I had learned from Kali), the officers found in the trunk a Bread Vac jar with the alleged smell of Cannabis and a sum of 4950 in US currency.  After the money was seized I was interviewed by investigators.  It was here that the teachings of Kali really began to show.  I refused to give any information, and ended the interview as soon as any drug questions were asked.  They had nothing.

Over the next few days I decided to give Kali a call, despite the fact she practices in California, because her general knowledge and understanding of the situation was extremely helpful.  She told me how to handle the situation, what not to do, and how to avoid losing my case.  I took all of her advice and was represented by counsel here in Nebraska.

During court the prosecution spent almost two hours building a foundation of the three officers involved.  She had tried to put a case together connecting the currency to drug trafficking.  Phone history was eventually not submitted into court, the alleged jar of smells was not tested by a chemist, and the fact that money was hidden and alerted to by the dog, was insufficient.  My lawyer noted that the money could have had drugs on it before it was in my possession.  To my surprise, the final ruling by the judge was this, because there Burden of Proof was on the state, they had not provided sufficient evidence to link the money to trafficking.  It was a surprise to hear that in a civil forfeiture case the Burden was on the state.

Kali was my initial contact for this set back and if it wasn’t for her teachings in Oaksterdam I may have handled it differently.  Thanks to Kali and my lawyer I won my case and face no other charges.  I recommend anyone with an opportunity to hear her speak to listen wisely, it may be sooner than you hope to have to heed her words of wisdom.

Thank you Kali, and all you do for Oaksterdam students and Cannabis lovers.  I highly recommend anyone in need of criminal defense to call Kali Grech first.
